Default hair breakage :( need advice!

I am stressing out here ladies.....my hair is breaking off about 2 inches from my scalp I have a bunch of crazy short pieces sticking up all over my head and more each day. Need some serious help and/or recommendations pronto!!! Guess my days of being platinum blonde are over, no more bleach for me

Is there anything I can do to prevent more from breaking (products etc)?

Moroccan oil. Everyone I know loves it. Pricey, but a little goes a long way.

I'm using it like a mad woman....with B&B gentle and deep. I also did a VO5 protein treatment but it seems like it cause MORE breakage It is totally manageable right now and not too noticeable but I sure don't want/need any more breaking off. Would it help if I got my hair cut shorter (currently past my shoulders). I'm gonna try and let it air dry, no more blowdrying or flat iron.

unfortunately, CHeryl, not much you can do besides wait for it to grow out. i suggest a smoothing/shine serum to help manage the pieces.
VO5, not good for the hair. just putting a waxy coating on it.
did you just get it bleached recently? if this has never happened before, then the bleach must have overlapped some, causing the breakage. also could have been left on too long.
bleach can be very harsh on the hair.
go out and get yourself a real good reconstructor. Joico's K-pak is one of my favorites.
(it is made up of 2/3's protein 1/3 moisture, which is the perfect mixture, IMO)

that would be best. Cut the harsh stuff like flat ironing or blow-drying. That causes a lot of breakage closer to the scalp. And, try finger-brushing your hair if possible. Stay away from brushes all together. While you're in the shower, apply the conditioner, and finger-brush it into your scalp and throughout the length of your hair so it's easier to do the same when you are finished showering and need to style your hair. It might not look all that appealing at first but it's worth it. If you really hate the way it looks then try just drying your bangs with a dryer. I've noticed that I can let my hair air dry, and just blow out my bangs and it looks really nice.

cheryl, you can also check out eufora. i was telling lin about it not too long ago. it is widely available in canada, too! i haven't tried this yet myself but i plan to when it is time for me to get more shampoo and conditioner. the great thing about this product is its base ingredient is certified organic aloe vera gel. amazing healing properties. from what i can see, they have for severely damaged hair: the "urgent repair" shampoo and conditioner, and the "fortifi strengthenign spray", which is protein-packed.

i go to a salon called Gloss- i've been following my girl for years and years and she and her ex-husband have now opened their own place. it was john that explained this line to me and i trust him completely!!! they are the only ones anywhere near me that carries this line. it is around the same price range as matrix, he said.

a link to the info:
http://www.eufora.net/trulyeufora.htm

here is the link to the products:
Eufora International

and a link to the canadian retailers:
Eufora International

and LOVE this- they are cruelty free

I had been having the same problem and I really think its due to a multiplicity of factors. Diet, stress, hydration, vitamin deficiencies....at least in my case. This is of course in addition to coloring, flat ironing, and daily washing.

What I have found helps:
-K-pak reconstructor.
-a leave in product called "Its a 10". I actually think it works miracles Amazon.com: IT'S A 10 MIRACLE LEAVE IN PRODUCT 4 OZ: Beauty
-better hydration. also started taking a multivite that has more biotin in it.
-i try not to wash my hair daily. its hard as I hit the gym daily so I dont really feel clean unless I've scrubbed my scalp, but Im trying
-less stress! life's too short for that!

also good call on giving the flat iron and dryer a rest for a while. I'm sure that will make a huge difference.

Thanks guys!!!

Do you think dying my hair darker right now would be a good idea or would it lead to more breakage??? I did tell my bf that this was it, no more blonde for me so he will have to like it or not. Better darker hair than bald head right!
I swear last night it felt like my roots were tingling and my scalp hot, was worried that I was gonna wake up bald I have a feeling it is also due to crazy hormone fluctuations as well as over-coloring.

ahhh im sorry

being brunette is not a bad thing really!!!

best thing to do IMO is NOT color it cut it all off and start over, let it grow in healthy and shiny.

chemicals are just bad for the hair especially over time it takes its toll .

dyeing it right now is just going to dry it out and make it worse. just do what everyone said and once your hair is stronger, then dye.

Sorry this is happening

I have super blonde platinum hair so I know about breakage. But I don't ever really blow dry my hair or use anything on it as far as heat goes. I might blow dry once in a blue moon if I am going out at night and need to dry it in a hurry.

I think just be gentle on your hair right now and it should heal. Then think about what you want to do. I'm not sure coloring it right now is the best thing.

I do love the Joico K-pak reconstructor and also LOVE Bed Head After Party to smooth my hair of the fly a ways and just to make it all more smooth ( and it smells great ). A good smoothing/shine serum works well to but the Bed Head is much better IMO and it feels lighter on my hair.

Do you have a regular person you go see for your hair? They might have a good suggestion too.

you can color it darker with it doing minimal damage, if it's a semi-permanent hair color. it's low acidity color and the developer is like 5 volume depending on the brand.
it will gradually rinse out over a period of 4-6 weeks depending on how porous your hair is and how often you shampoo it. the great thing about it is that it gives great shine to the hair. and you don't necessarily have to go real dark with it either.
what is your natural color?
