| | I officially give up on COH grrrr...pics So you all read about my woes with my Avedon Big Sur tear...I got the tear fixed 2 weeks ago. I wore the jeans today, and look what happened. I am so f*cking pissed. I probably walked around campus all day without realizing this huge ass rip UNTIL paranoid me, curious about the original tear, felt around it and realized that something felt fuzzy...I run back to my dorm take off my jeans and almost cry when I see it. I had a night class right after seeing this, and it's all I could think about. RIP my favorite jeans
WELLLLL, what to do now!?
Warning to y'all: AVOID BIG SUR WASH at all costs...even if the material is so soft and pretty! |

| | I had a pair of Taverniti's with a tear like that, it was under the butt a bit more, right in the crease of the back of the thigh and butt. I had it professionally repaired. It was a great job and looked like part of the wash. The only problem is that I could feel the repair and it bothered me but I am notoriously picky about stuff like that. Regular seams bother me. It cost me about $20 so it might be worth it for you if you really love them. |

| | ^Yea I was thinking about that...getting it to the tailor again. My seamstress ironed on a big patch behind the tear, and I guess the huge rip formed because the patch is kinda falling off. Oh well, I won't be going home for another 2 months so I'll have to wait. Phooey.

| | LOL The only 2 here.
Have the tailor darn the patch in place over the rips. Let me see if I can find the pics of my taverniti's so you can show her. Give me a sec, this was a while ago. |

| | The first pic is the butt rip, she put a piece of denim under it, sewed it all around the edges then darned the areas that had loose strings, like on the lower area of your rip. She had to use a piece of fabric because there was denim missing and it needed to give a bit because it was the butt, or it would rip again, like yours did.
The second pic is a repair I did myself on a nasty heel rip that frayed when it was washed. I used an iron patch and darned it evenly across all the way down. That one was near perfect, it really came out great. |

| | Darn? Is that actually sewing the tear? Is there a way to keep the iron patch permanent? Like using superglue or something similar? |

| | Darning is sewing crosswise over the fabric to reinforce the tear. Essentially you are putting back the strings of the fabric that ripped. If you look at the second pic of the hems damage, you can see the seams I sewed across the whole length of the fray. That is darning.
You can try the Mighty Mend it that Chris posted about a few weeks ago. With that rip I don't think an iron on patch alone is enough. It is in an area that is stressed too much with sitting and bending. Even with the mighty mend it I would put on a patch of some sort of fabric or iron patch on it first, but I have never used that stuff so I can't say for sure how well it will work.

| | awe, bummer! that really sucks. i hate when that happens to your favorite pair. i myself would rock these jeans with spandex underneath so my skin didn't show through the rip!

| | Basically, you can use Mighty Mendit for tears, but it's best to use it to glue a patch. That's what they recommend. Having used it on one pair that's been washed, I'll go ahead and say it's MUCH better than just a plain iron on. Seems a lot stronger initially and if the claims are correct, it's going to last a long time (if not forever as they claim).

| | That stinks. I think maybe you did have a bad pair because I have some Big Sur Kellys and haven't had any problems at all. |

| | Hmmm it seems like there may really have been a bad batch made of Big Sur's afterall. I was reading some reviews on Avedon Big Sur from Revolve, and a few of the reviewers noted that their jeans ripped! Ugh, I wish I could get a hold of COH Corporate!! They don't have a phone number :/ | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
