| Guide to Authenticating True Religion Jeans True Religion jeans come in several styles, washes, etc. The best way to learn how to authenticate is just to practice by looking at real and fake pairs and checking out the authenticity checks in the forum. One great tool (in my opinion) is the collection of extensive style/wash guides that we have in the sticky section of the True Religion forum. Look at what real pairs look like, and the fake pairs. Here are several things to look at when authenticating True Religion jeans. The #1 RULE, however, is to post pictures of the jeans in question. There are several True Religion experts here who can tell you if the jeans are real or fake. In order to protect yourself when buying on Ebay, allow us to authenticate your jeans, and always pay with PAYPAL using your CREDIT CARD, so that you can file a claim and get your money back if you get fake merchandise. 1-Tags 2-Pockets 3-Wash 4-Stitching 5-Seller 1. Tags The jeans will have 3 kinds of tags – the exterior tag on the back of the jeans, the interior tags, and the hangtag. These vary depending on the style of the jeans and when they were made. Please see below for what these tags are supposed to look like, and some examples of fake tags. A. Exterior Tags a. OLD OLD style tags for womens’ jeans The really old women’s tags are white with the musical Buddha. The styles are represented as numbers. Joey is #503 and Bobby is #508. Things to look for on the tags: -the Buddha’s fingers should be clear -the Buddha should look like he has a lazy eye b. Old Style tags for women’s jeans These tags are also white with the Buddha. In the “section” area, it should say the style, such as “JOHNNY” or “JOEY BIG T” or “RAINBOW JOEY” etc. There should be no numbers in the seat and row areas for women’s jeans. Look for the same things -the buddha’s fingers should be clear -the Buddha should look like he has a lazy eye -The stitching should go all the way around the tag and be neat -Big T styles will have larger tags, and Super T styles larger still -look at the font of the words to see if it is right ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() c. New Style tags for women’s jeans For regular new style pockets, they will be leather with red stitching. There will be no style, row, seat etc numbers or words printed on them. They should look like leather and not some cheap crap. For new heritage pockets, the tag will be leather with a darker stamped Buddha etc. The style should be listed, and “34” should be after the word ROW. It will have a sticker on it that states the style, wash, etc. If the cardboard hang tag does not look like it has been sat on/thrown through the dryer/etc, then it is a fake hangtag. Beware of switched hangtags, fakers will sometimes do this and then return fakes to a retail store if the staff is not well-versed in authentication. The tag should be tied to the jeans with a piece of twine. ![]() 2. Brown/White Fabric hangtags These tags consist of a piece of white fabric with the TR logo on it. The other side is this fake leather stuff that is stitched on to the white fabric. On the fake leather part should be a sticker stating the price, number, etc. If the brown side is cardboard then the tag is fake. The tag should be tied to the jeans with a small denim cord. 3. New Hangtag The new hangtag is a piece of red cardboard. It will have “True Religion” stitched on in beige thread. It will also have an indented circular stamp. On the back, there will be a white sticker. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 4. Red Cardboard Hangtag ![]() ![]() C. Interior Tags On the interior tags, it will say TRUE RELIGION in red, and below that BRAND JEANS. Make sure that the J in jeans dips below the rest of the letters. It should also say “made in USA”. If it says “MADE IN CHINA” or anywhere else, the jeans are fake. There are a few exceptions. Some of these include – older children’s items were made in mexico. Cashmere sweaters are made in China. There are a few others but all adult jeans will say made in the US or made in the USA of foreign materials. The interior tags from the newer jeans will have a silver microstitching strip. This should be a thick piece that is stitched into the fabric. Up close, you should be able to read TRUE RELIGION BRAND JEANS on the microstrip. Most fakes will have what looks like 2 pieces of silver tinsel instead. This is not on the older jeans. Old Tags ![]() ![]() ![]() New Tags ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 2. Pockets The shape of the horseshoe stitching on the rear pockets, as well as the shape of the flaps on rear and coin pockets for those styles which have them, are the most obvious signs for blatantly fake pairs of true religions. The horseshoe shape should fill up the whole pocket, and go under the flap for Joeys/Billys. The horseshoe should not be too close or too far from the bottom of the pocket (see pictures). The flaps on the rear and coin pockets need to be curved and come to a semi-sharp point for the older styles. The coin pocket flap is a very good indicator for older fakes. For newer styles, the flap will be round all the way around. For heritage styles, the horseshoe should be round and not look sloppy. Wash True Religion washes will never look like the cheap jeans that you will find at Sears/Forever 21/Rave etc. There are a few washes with extreme fading, including The Duke and Lovestruck, but in general, if there is extreme fading which looks like you sat in a pool of bleach or someone painted two stripes of bleach along your thighs, they are fake. When looking at wash, the best thing to do is to look at the extensive wash/style guides and see if there is a pair that has the same wash so that you can compare. Please note that a) washes will vary slightly in darkness between regular, big T, and super T styles, as well as between rigid and stretch. However, you will get the general idea and b) in MANY occasions, sellers on Ebay DO NOT HAVE ANY IDEA how to name True Religions, and will therefore state that the jeans are the incorrect wash.
